The Locket, The Crumpled Letter, The Never Ending Conversation,
This painting is about traces and memories. The locket and the letter have to do with objects bearing traces of loved ones that have gone to war, were lost at sea, of destinies unknown. The seated figures clutch these objects with doubts, hope, longing, never ending thought in their minds like a conversation that never ceases. The soldiers within frame could be their actual lovers going away, or soldiers waiting for their peers to return, or perhaps it is a painting on the wall reflecting what lies in their mind.
